75 new security staff needed at Brussels Airport: 'Hopefully many female candidates will come forward'

Brussels Airport is looking for 75 new security staff. The airport expects a record number of passengers this summer and needs more security staff. Security firm G4S hopes a lot of women will apply, as they are needed to check women and their hand luggage.

"We’ve noticed that after the pandemic demand for air travel has risen once again," says Barbara Werniers of security firm G4S. "That's why we are looking for new security staff, because we expect a busy summer."

Ms Werniers hopes that a lot of women will apply: "We still notice that there is a barrier to women becoming security guards. We need women when women have to be searched and when their hand luggage needs to be checked. Anyone who wants to become a security officer receives training from us. People who want to work at Brussels Airport will receive further specialised training for the airport."

75 new security officers

G4S is looking for 75 new security staff: "We are looking for people to check hand luggage, search people and operate the X-ray machine. The candidates must be able to remain calm in all situations. They must be able to explain to tourists that certain substances cannot be carried. They need to remain professional in all circumstances and treat passengers politely so that passengers can leave on vacation with a positive feeling."

1,000 euros bonus

To attract and motivate candidates, new staff starting between April 24 and June 1 will receive a pretax bonus of 1,000 euros. "Even after the busy summer period, staff will remain at working at G4S," Werniers says. "We need people and they will remain on the payroll."
