Woman's parachute fails to open

A woman in her fifties is in hospital fighting for her life after her parachute failed to open during a jump.

The unfortunate woman had set off from Spa-La Sauvenière aerodrome in Wallonia as part of a group of sixteen experienced jumpers.  The group executed a free fall and then opened their parachutes, but the hapless woman's parachute failed to open.  Fortunately a tree broke her fall and it was here that she was found with broken limbs and seriously injured.

The woman was rushed to the La Citadelle hospital in Liège where medical staff are struggling to rescue her.
