Steven Defour to leave Burnley in Antwerp transfer?

In football, various press reports state that midfielder Steven Defour of Burnley may return to Belgium, to play for Antwerp FC. Both parties are said to be close to a deal, which may be sealed in the next days.

Defour (31) opted for a Premier League outing with Burnley in 2016, but it seems he may return to Belgium now. Defour, a former member of the Belgian national team, quit the Belgian team in May last year. Last season, he was nursing various injuries and was never a regular starter in the Burnley squad.

Ambitious Antwerp, who celebrated their return in Europe last week, are looking for an extra midfielder. If Defour returns to Belgium, he would be the sixth big name to do so, following other former Belgian internationals such as Vincent Kompany and Nacer Chadli (Anderlecht), Simon Mignolet (Club Brugge), Laurent Depoitre (AA Gent) and Anthony Limbombe (Standard).

At Antwerp FC, Defour would see Laszlo Bölöni back, the manager with whom he worked at Standard to become Belgian champions in 2009.
