Club Brugge coach Ivan Leko: will he still be in charge next season?

Tense Bruges derby ends in a massive brawl

In football, the derby between Cercle Brugge and Club Brugge has ended in a 2-all draw. This was especially frustrating for Club, who squandered a 1-2 lead, and who see title favourites KRC Genk widen the gap.

Club Bruges dominated the first half, building a 1-2 lead. However, Cercle came back after the break, when Irvin Cardona equalised. Club had the chance to score another one, but failed and had a frustrating afternoon on their home ground.

Things ran out of hand in the end, with Club skipper Ruud Vormer being involved in a row with Omolo; Omolo was sent off with a second yellow card as both were shown yellow by referee Lawrence Visser.

Provocative move by Cardona

Just after the last whistle, Cardona planted the corner flag on the centre spot in a controversial move which came down the wrong way with the Club players. A massive brawl started, with the pushing and shouting continuing until wel after the match.

In other action yesterday evening, bottom-of-the-table Sporting Lokeren created the big surprise by downing third-placed Antwerp FC 2-1, giving their last hopes of avoiding relegation a boost. Sint-Truiden edged past Waasland-Beveren 2-1 to retain their spot in the top-6 and keep the pressure on AA Gent and Anderlecht.
