Three youths detained after unprovoked attack in East Flemish village

Three minors have been detained after a 28-year-old man was severely beaten up in a street in the East Flemish village of Lebbeke. The three boys, all 15 years old, have appeared before a juvenile magistrate. The attack is reported to have been unprovoked. 

The incident happened on the Stationstraat, near to Lebbeke Ice Ring. A film of the attack has been published on the website of the daily ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’.   

The film shows that as many as 8 youths were involved in the attack. The youths pushed the man to the ground and kicked him in the face. They ran away when the man’s nose started bleeding. Witnesses called the emergency services and the victim was taken to hospital.     

The Judicial Authorities have identified three of the assailants. They are all minors aged 15. The Judicial Authorities’ investigation into the attack is on-going and it is hoped that more suspects can be identified.
