Club Brugge alone at the top after Antwerp lose in Charleroi

After three games Club Brugge is the only team with a 100% record. In Sunday evening’s games Royal Antwerp FC were beaten by Sporting Charleroi and AA Gent suffered a defeat at the hands of Excel Mouscron. Sunday evening’s two games involved the two clubs that were in action in the qualifying round of the Europa League last Thursday.

In the 8pm kick-off AA Gent failed to produce a repeat of their impressive performance the previous Sunday that saw them beat KAS Eupen 6-1. Excel Mouscron showed that they are made of much sterner stuff than Eupen.

Despite going a goal behind after Depoitre put AA Gent one-up on 25 minutes, Excel Mouscron won the game by 2 goals to 1. All the goals fell in the first half with Frank Boya scoring Mouscron’s equaliser on 34 minutes.

Joan Campins scored what turned out to be the winning goal a minute before half time. Despite being in control for much of the second half, AA Gent were unable to score and suffered their first defeat of the new season. The result leaves AA Gent with 4 points from 3 games. Excel Mouscron have 7 points.

Antwerp beaten for the first time this season

Earlier in the evening an exciting climax to the game between Sporting Charleroi and Royal Antwerp FC saw the Zebras beat the Great Old by 2 goals to 1. Mamadou Fall open the scoring for Sporting Charleroi on 60 minutes. Refaelov equalised for Antwerp on 75 minutes.

Perbet missed a penalty 4 minutes later. However, he compensated for this in the 90th minute when he scored the winning goal. Royal Antwerp FC now have 6 points from 3 games. Sporting Charleroi have 5 points.
