Roadworks from Wednesday on the E40 in Aalter

The Flemish Highways and Traffic Agency is to begin roadworks on the busy E40 motorway at Aalter in East Flanders. The road works will be carried out in two phases to limit disruption. However, motorists should be aware that there could still be disruption especially at peak times. The roadworks will get under way at 9am on Wednesday when resurfacing work will start on the left-hand lane on the Ghent-bound carriageway.

Concrete safety barriers are also being put in place on the central reservation. During the day traffic will be limited to 2 lanes, while at night traffic will be limited to just 1 lane. The work should have been completed by 4pm on Friday.

The Flemish Highways and Traffic Agency believes that as two lanes will remain open during the day, disruption should be kept to a minimum. However, the Agency’s Sylvie Syryn told VRT News that “We will be monitoring the situation closely. If it is busier than expected we will activate the overhead electronic signs to give information on alternative routes”.
