Heavy storms on their way
The Royal Metrological Institute (KMI) forecasts storms with localised heavy rain, high winds and hail. The Federal Department of the Interior has opened the 1722 hotline. The extreme weather conditions could continue well into Tuesday night.
Tuesday has started of dry and cloudy in most areas. However, the cloud has increased during the morning and from the early afternoon there will be rain in western areas of the country. The showers will gradually become heavy. Towards the end of the afternoon there could be some heavy storms with thunder, lightning, wind, rain and hail.
The 1722 hotline that can be used to report storm damage or flooding was opened on Tuesday morning. The hotline is for none urgent requests for help by the fire service. For incidents in which human life is endangered people should still call the usual emergency number 112.
The heavy rain, gusts of high wind and/or hail could cause damage in some areas. Temperatures will be warm, reaching 20°C or 21°C in coastal areas and 27°C to 28°C in the Kempen area of Limburg and Antwerp provinces and the extreme south of Wallonia. Tuesday evening and Tuesday night will see heavy showers of rain and storms sweep across the country. Cloudbursts, gusts of high wind and/or hail could cause some localised damage to property, crops and trees. During the latter part of the night the rain will decrease and the wind will die down.
