Late Dortmund goal robs Club Brugge of a point

The Belgian Champions Club Brugge have lost their first Champions League match of the season at home against Borussia Dortmund. Despite a strong performance by Club Brugge, the Champions were unable to score in front of their home crowd. A somewhat lucky goal by Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic on 85 minutes dashed Club Brugge’s hopes on taking a point.  

Dortmund almost scored in the first minute after an error by Mitrovic. However, Letica saved the day. Club then pulled up their socks and produced some good football that served to surprise Dortmund  

There were chances for Club Brugge’s Danjuma and Vossen. Midway through the first half Wesley really. Vormer’s effort on the rebound went wide.  

Denswil came closest of all to putting Club Brugge 1-0 up. However, his shot went just wide. The half ended goalless.  

Club pay for failing to make the most of 1st half chances

The second half saw Dortmund monopolise possession. [MB1] However, the failed to create much in the way of chances. Club Brugge relied on counter attacks.  

The Dortmund subs Pulisic and Kagawa provided the lion’s share of the chances for the visitors.    

At the other end the Club Brugge substitute Openda almost scored from his first touch. However, Bürki was on hand to save the day for Borussia Dortmund.

The only goal of the match fell at the other end. Borussia Dortmund’s Pulsic and Club Brugge’s Mitrovic both kicked the ball at the same time and it was catapulted over Letica into goal.   

A bitter pill for a Club Brugge side that had more than matched Borussia Dortmund.
