Geel stabbing: one person seriously injured in mass brawl with 50 minors at railway station

3 people were injured during a mass brawl at Geel railway station (Antwerp Province) yesterday.  One person is in a very bad way. One suspect has been arrested; another suspect is believed to have fled to the neighbouring town of Mol (Antwerp Province).

The mass brawl broke out in the town in the Antwerp Kempen District around 5 p.m. yesterday evening. According to the Antwerp public prosecutor's office, about 50 minors were involved and exchanged  blows. Police told Mayor Vera Celis that the incident happened after school and involved a number of youths of Antillean (Caribbean) heritage.

After the brawl and stabbings, 3 victims were taken to hospital. Initially there was speculation about 3 seriously injured victims. Later it emerged only one person had been seriously injured. They are now no longer fighting for their life.

Bloody knife found

One suspect was arrested in Geel, but another suspect is believed to have taken the train from Geel to Mol. "That’s because a bloody knife was found in the railway station," explains the Geel mayor.

Investigators are at work both at Mol and Geel stations. The exact motive for the incident and whether the apprehended suspect is involved in the facts should become clear from the investigation.
